NAUGATUCK — Later this month, two local business owners will take to the links for 12 hours all for a good cause.

On June 20, Larry Erickson, owner of Jesse Camille’s Restaurant, and Hank Witkoski, Jr., owner of Witkoski Associates, will participate in the first “Golf Fore Good,” a marathon round of golf at Hop Brook Golf Course to raise money for the Naugatuck Ecumenical Food Bank.

The event, which will start with Erickson and Witkoski teeing off on the first hole of the course at 7 a.m., will last for 12 hours. The two men will be walking the course and playing golf during the entire time.

Witkoski said the idea for the event came to him while he was at Hop Brook a few years ago.

“I was thinking about when we were kids we would play golf all day long. We would get there at 7 a.m. and make it home before the 8 p.m. whistle,” Witkoski said.

However, both men said they haven’t played that long in years.

Witkoski and Erickson said it usually takes them about four hours to play 18 holes at Hop Brook.

According to Erickson, the two of them chose to raise money for the food bank because it helps the residents of the borough.

“The food bank does a lot for town,” Erickson said. “Marty (Fenton), who is involved with the food bank, is a wonderful advocate for it and she is a friend of ours.”

Erickson and Witkoski are seeking monetary donations for the food bank by June 20. Those interested in donating can email Witkoski at hankwitkoski@gmail.com for a form and more information.

As the men prepare for a marathon of golf, Erickson said his plan for the day is just to continue playing and moving forward.

“I’m not going to spend any time looking for balls I loose in the woods,” he said.
