Funds available for housing rehab

BEACON FALLS — The town has funds available to assist low- and moderate-income homeowners make repairs to their homes through no-interest loans.

In 2017, the town received a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant for housing rehabilitation. There are enough funds still available to do work at about 10 homes, a press release stated. The grant expires on Sept. 30, 2019.

To be eligible for the housing rehabilitation program, homeowners’ annual income can’t exceed $47,600 for a single person or $68,000 for a household of four. Homeowners must also be up to date on town taxes and have 10 percent equity in their homes.

Under the program, a mortgage is placed on the homes for the work done. The mortgage is payable when the house changes title.
