NAUGATUCK — Four people surrendered to police this week on charges related to an August fight at McDonald’s on New Haven Road that ended after one man sustained a broken nose.

Stephen Sorriero, 26, of 8 Pond St., was in a white Oldsmobile going through the drive-thru with three other people just before 4:30 a.m. Aug. 19, said Lt. Bryan Cammarata of the Naugatuck Police Department. After they pulled into a parking space to await their order, Jason Carpinella, 31, of 49 City Hill St., drove up with his girlfriend. When Sorriero walked back over to the window to get his food, he and Carpinella began calling each other names for no discernible reason, Cammarata said.

“Depending on which version of the story you have, somehow an argument turned into an altercation,” Cammarata said. “It really looks like it’s over nothing.”

Carpinella got out of his car, and he and Sorriero began to punch and kick each other, Cammarata said. Sorriero punched Carpinella in the nose, breaking it, and Carpinella was cut and bruised, according to police. Carpinella’s girlfriend sustained cuts on her face as she tried to pull Sorriero away, Cammarata said.

During the fight, Sorriero took Carpinella’s wallet, which contained $28, according to police.

After the fight was reported, police found the white Oldsmobile on Pond Street, but Sorriero and his friends refused to come to the door, according to police. The driver, 33-year-old Krista Lionello of 110 Salem Road in Prospect, and 28-year-old Grant Lionello of the same address, tried to cover for Sorriero by saying he had not been in the car, Cammarata said.

Sorriero is a known white supremacist who has a criminal history and is accused of stabbing two people on Saint Patrick’s Day on the Maple Street bridge.

Sorriero surrendered to police Tuesday and was charged with assault in the second degree, conspiracy at assault in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, conspiracy at reckless endangerment in the second degree, and breach of peace. He appeared Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court.

Carpinella was charged with breach of peace and third-degree assault. Krista Lionello was charged with breach of peace, interfering with an officer and making a false statement in the second degree. Grant Lionello was charged with interfering with an officer and making a false statement in the second degree. They will all appear Oct. 10 in Waterbury Superior Court.

Another arrest is expected in the case, Cammarata said.
