PROSPECT — The American flags that hang from utility poles along Route 68 and Route 69 are up early this year.

The town usually puts the flags up before Memorial Day to honor veterans and military members. This year, the town decided to put them up early to also recognize the efforts of local heroes and front-line workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

“As the flags fly, remember our veterans along with all those who serve us daily and provide us with our freedoms and opportunities we so cherish,” said resident Robert Hiscox, who oversees the Prospect Flag Fund, in a news release. “We will get through this together.”

On April 25, workers from Ed The Treeman, a Prospect-based company, installed nearly 140 American flags on utility poles along routes 68 and 69 near the center of town.
