BEACON FALLS — The Beacon Falls Fishing Rodeo has been renamed to honor the late Ronald Barksdale.

It will be called the Ron Barksdale Memorial Fishing Rodeo, said Joseph Rodorigo, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission. The commission decided to honor Barksdale in that way, and unveiled a banner at the fishing rodeo April 26.

The town presented a proclamation to honor Barksdale for his work and years of service, Rodorigo said.

Barksdale died April 21 at Griffin Hospital in Derby after a battle with respiratory fibrosis, according to his obituary. He was 78. Barksdale ran the fishing rodeo for more than 20 years.

“He is going to be missed — his efforts and the time he put in,” Rodorigo said.
