NAUGATUCK — Firefighters quickly prevented a fire that started in a solar panel on the roof of a Cherry Street home from to spreading Sunday afternoon.

Fire Capt. Jason Alford said fire on the roof of the home at 199 Cherry St., at the intersection with Olive Street, was reported at around 3:38 p.m.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which had caused the roof shingles underneath it to melt, in less than five minutes, Alford said.

There were no injuries to firefighters or to the occupants of the single-family home. The borough’s fire marshal was investigating the cause of the fire.
