Firefighters extricate man from car

NAUGATUCK — A man was injured after his car hit a parked car and rolled on the driver’s side on Meadow Street on Thursday night, according to fire officials.

The accident was reported just after 8 p.m. in front of 223 Meadow St. The car, a small convertible Fiat, was going south on Meadow Street, when it hit the parked car and rolled, pinning the driver inside. Fire Capt. Vincent Healy said firefighters worked fast, first freeing his legs, then rolling him onto a board and finally removing the driver from the car through the roof of the Fiat. Healy said the extrication took just eight minutes.

The man was conscious and alert. He was taken to a Waterbury area hospital. The extent of his injuries was not known as of this post.
