FireDepartmentNAUGATUCK — Firefighters spent about an hour Friday afternoon knocking down a brush fire in the woods off Great Hill Road in the industrial park.

The fire began behind STRAW Technologies at 39 Great Hill Road. It was initially a small fire, but the weather was windy and the blaze kept changing directions, said Lt. Glen Noll of the Naugatuck Fire Department.

The blaze took over 160,000 square feet of brush, with columns of flame at least 15 feet high, Noll said. Two pumper trucks responded with six firefighters between them. No property was damaged, nobody was injured and the buildings did not need evacuation, Noll said. The fire was extinguished before it got too close to a nearby residential development on Clark Hill Road.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
