PROSPECT — A fire consumed the attached garage of a single-family home on New Haven Road late Thursday night.

The fire started in the garage at 103 New Haven Road, said Ed Malaspina, a firefighter and public information officer with the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters responded to the fire at about 11:18 p.m.

When they arrived on the scene, Malaspina said the garage was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters got the fire under control in about 20 minutes, he said. Firefighters remained on the scene for about four hours ensuring the blaze didn’t reignite, he said.

Two adults were home at the time and made it out safely, Malaspina said. No injuries were reported.

Malaspina said the garage sustained significant damage. He said the fire spread only slightly to the home, but the house sustained smoke and water damage. The house is uninhabitable.

According to town property records, the two-bedroom home is owned by James A. Beaudoin and Delphine Vierra.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Bethany Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene. The Cheshire Fire Department provided coverage at the Prospect firehouse during the fire.
