FireDepartmentNAUGATUCK — A fire broke out in a three-family home Thursday morning, displacing all the occupants.

Fire Chief Ken Hanks said firefighters responded to a fire at 551 North Main St. at about 11:30 a.m. The fire was contained to the basement of the house and damaged the ceiling of the basement, the floorboards of the first floor, the wiring and the plumbing, he said.

One occupant was taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation, he said.

Hanks said the seven occupants of that house would probably not be able to return to for a couple of weeks.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Thursday’s fire was the second fire at the home over the past few months.

On April 2 a resident of the home fell asleep with food on the stove, which caused the fire. The April fire was confined to the kitchen but caused extensive damage and the apartment has been unoccupied since.

Hanks said Wednesday’s fire is in a different apartment than the last one and does not appear related.
