NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Fire Department has announced the winners of Naugatuck’s 7th Annual Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Contest.

The contest is for fourth- and fifth-grade students at the borough’s public and private schools. About 350 students entered the contest this year.

Makayla Cristanti from Hop Brook School won first place among fourth graders. Livia Sarnelli and Rebecca Carney, both from Maple Hill School, won second and third place respectively.

In the fifth grade category, Hailey Russell from Hillside Intermediate School won first place. Kylie Neretich from Cross Street Intermediate School and Izabella Kozlowski from St. Francis-St. Hedwig School won second and third place respectively.

Russell became the first ever student to repeat as the first place winner. She won first place in the fourth-grade category last year.

The winners, who will be honored at fire headquarters in January, will receive bicycles and helmets paid for through a $1,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation. The posters made by Cristanti and Russell will move on to the New Haven County competition.
