PROSPECT — The town’s annual Pumpkin Festival will look to get residents into the Halloween spirit.

The 12th annual Pumpkin Festival is Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. on the Town Green on Center Street. The rain date is Sunday. Children are encouraged to come in costume.

The festival will feature a maze, a hay bale rolling contest, a haunted house and pumpkins that have been decorated by Prospect Elementary School and Long River Middle School students.
A highlight of the festival is its annual costume and vehicle parade, which runs from Chandler Drive, up Route 69, and ends at the Grange.

Mayor Robert Chatfield said that anybody that owns an orange vehicle or a tractor and wants to participate in the parade should line up on Chandler Drive next to Ion Bank prior to the parade stepping off at 5:45 p.m. Any floats in the parade should have a Halloween or autumn theme, he said.

The parade will include the Mattatuck Drum Band from Waterbury, St. Peter’s Drum Corps of Torrington and the Windsor Fife & Drum Corps.

Chatfield asked that no one throw candy during the parade due to safety concerns.

“I urge people to come out and watch the parade. You never know what you are going to see,” Chatfield said.

The festival will also feature live music and vendors selling their wares, Chatfield said.

“Basically this is our last social event before winter,” Chatfield said.
