PROSPECT — A local fashion designer is hoping her passion for fashion helps lead to a cure for cancer.

Amanda Vaz, of Wolcott, is hosting Fashion Cure 2 on Oct. 27 to raise money for the Los Angeles-based Keep a Breast Foundation.

“We like to support a good cause while having an entertaining night,” Vaz said.

The event will take place beginning at 6 p.m. at the Aria Wedding and Banquet Facility, 45 Murphy Road. Tickets can be purchased at www.vazzies.com and are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Those attending must be 18 years old or older and come in cocktail attire.

The event will feature Vaz’s two fashion lines — a line of clothing for men and women called Vaz and a line of clothing for dogs called Tia. Clothing from three other fashion designers will also be on display.

Vaz said the event will also include dancing, music, a hair show, an LED hula hoop performance and a cash bar. This is the second annual fashion show Vaz and her sister, Melissa, have hosted to raise money for breast cancer research. The first show was at Sin City in Waterbury. Vaz said she wanted to reach a new population this year and since Aria just recently opened it seemed like the perfect place.

Vaz said she decided to start the fashion show because people in her life have been affected by breast cancer.

“Breast cancer affects a lot of people,” Vaz said. “We want the younger generation to acknowledge that breast cancer is growing and be aware of it.”
