NAUGATUCK — More than 200 buildings served by Connecticut Light & Power along New Haven Road lost power Wednesday morning after a guy wire snapped and came into contact with overhead lines leading into the borough substation.
The outage was reported at 8:25 a.m. and power was restored just after noon, said CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross.
Firefighters had to rescue a guest at the Comfort Inn who was in an elevator when the power went out, Fire Chief Ken Hanks said.
Classes remained in session at Cross Street Intermediate School, although it had no power between 8:10 and 11:30 a.m., Superintendent John Tindall-Gibson said. All classrooms have windows, giving students and teachers sufficient light, the building remained warm and alternate provisions were made to serve students lunches, Tindall-Gibson said.
