PROSPECT — The Minds in Motion academic enrichment event is coming to Prospect.

The event offers three hours of enrichment classes for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Presenters will include the Discovery Museum, Seen Angels Theatre, Flanders Nature Center, Connecticut Science Center, along with local artists, educators, and fitness instructors. More than 25 classes ranging from karate to theatre improvising will be offered to children from Region 16 and surrounding communities.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to explore learning in areas they wouldn’t necessarily get to learn about in school,” said Prospect resident Trish Spofford, chair of the Minds in Motion committee, in a news release. “Kindergarteners can learn about being a veterinarian while eighth graders can get an introduction to astrophysics. These are the kinds of experiences that stimulate kids to want to delve deeper into specific areas of learning.”

The event is being jointly hosted by the Connecticut Association for the Gifted, parents and educators from Region 16, and the Long River Middle School PTO.

A keynote address and workshops will be available for parents and teachers. Participating Region 16 teachers will be eligible to receive free Continuing Education Units for the workshops they attend. Out of district teachers will receive a certificate of attendance.

Minds in Motion will be held March 31 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Long River Middle School in Prospect. The registration deadline is March 16 and classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. For more information, visit www.ctgifted.org or e-mail MIMprospect@ctgifted.org.
