BEACON FALLS — A toddler and two drivers escaped serious injuries in a crash on Route 8 North Friday afternoon.

State police said a 19-month-old boy was ejected from a car driven by Alex Malave, 42, while it rolled over near the Exit 24 on-ramp. The infant, who was not properly secured in the child safety seat, suffered minor injuries, police said.

Malave and the driver of the second car involved in the accident, 56-year-old Raoul Muszynski, also suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to state police.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. Police said Malave was driving in the left lane when he swerved left onto the grass median then back into the right lane of the highway, hitting Muszynski’s car from behind.

The collision caused Muszynski to crash into the guardrail along the left shoulder of the highway, police said. The car then veered back onto the highway, dragging the guardrail with it across Route 8.

Malave’s car rolled onto the grass median after crashing into the guardrail supports, police said.

It’s unclear what relationship the toddler has to Malave, who was arrested on multiple charges after being treated for injuries. The charges against Malave include risk of injury to a child, first-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving. State police listed addresses for Malave in Hartford and Danbury. He is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court this month.
