NAUGATUCK — A woman escaped serious injury Thursday when the car she was driving rolled over on Route 8 southbound near North Main Street.

The woman, who was about 20 years old, was driving a four-door sedan in the left lane shortly after noon when she hit the concrete barrier in the highway’s median, Fire Chief Ken Hanks said. The impact caused the car to flip over and slide on its roof along the barrier before landing on its wheels in the same lane, Hanks said.

State Department of Transportation crews, doing road work in the area, moved their dump trucks with flashing lights to block the stopped sedan so an unsuspecting driver would not hit it, Hanks said. The woman sustained bruises and minor injuries, Hanks said. The accident closed the southbound lanes for about 25 minutes, until the right lane reopened, according to the DOT.
