PROSPECT — The Prospect Republican Town Committee is organizing a collection to benefit the town’s food and fuel banks.

On Saturday, members of committee will be collecting monetary donations and donations of perishable items from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Oliver’s Supermarket, 75 Waterbury Road.

The food bank is in need of many non-perishable items to help restock its shelves, Mayor Robert Chatfield said.

Any cash donations will go toward providing fuel to households in need of assistance heating their homes, Chatfield said.

“With the price of oil down donations will go even further this year,” Chatfield said.

Chatfield said donations will help those with gas, electric and oil heat.

“It has been a cold January and many local residents are in need of supplemental help keeping their homes warm,” Chatfield said.

Chatfield said those in need of assistance should call Town Hall at (203) 758-4461 and they will be directed to the correct person.

Those who wish to donate, but can not make it to Oliver’s Supermarket can send checks payable to the Prospect Fuel Fund or the Prospect Food Fund to Prospect Town Hall, 36 Center St., Prospect, CT 06712. Donations can also be given to any member of the Prospect Republican Town Committee.

In addition, non-perishable food and household items may be dropped off at the Prospect Senior Center, 6 Center St.

For more information, can call Robert Hiscox at (203) 758-4687 or Nazih Noujaim at (203) 527-6975.
