NAUGATUCK — The Park and Recreation Department is reaching out to the public to raise funds for the annual July 4 celebration.

The celebration is scheduled this year for July 3, with a rain date of July 5, and will be held on Maple Street downtown. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and will include family activities, vendors, magicians and music. The fireworks show, which will be held at Breen Field North on Hotchkiss Street, is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. The fireworks will be set up so they can be seen from Maple Street.

The celebration has usually been held at Naugatuck High School, but was moved this year due to ongoing renovations to the school.

Recreation Director Kim Eyre said the entire event costs about $16,000. The borough is paying $10,000 of that cost, leaving the department to raise the remaining $6,000.

Eyre said in the past the community has always come through with donations.

“We have always had enough money. … It’s amazing,” Eyre said.

Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Park Department, 246 Rubber Ave., Naugatuck, CT 06770. Envelopes can be marked Fourth of July and checks should be made payable to the Fourth of July Fund.

A PayPal account for online donations has been set up at www.naugatuck-ct.gov. The link is under “Notices and Announcements” on the homepage of the website. For more information, call (203) 720-7071.
