Donations pour in for storm relief effort

NAUGATUCK — The disaster relief effort being organized by members of the Shepherd Salem Lodge No. 78 in Naugatuck for victims of Superstorm Sandy in the New York New Jersey area is going well and officers are looking for volunteers to help sort items.

In an email, David Hughes, master of the lodge, described the response from the community and Masons across the state as “awesome.”

Hughes wrote that collection of necessities such as baby food, nonperishable foods hand warmers and monetary donations have been steadily coming in. Donations are being accepted at Rockwell Studio of Photography at 191 Church St., which Hughes owns, the Fire Department on Maple Street, and Jimmy’s Place on Main Street in Seymour. Members of the lodge will also be collecting donations outside of Walmart on New Haven Road in Naugatuck Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a full list of items needed, visit www.shepherd-salemLodge78.org.
