PROSPECT — A pharmacy with a drive-through is being proposed for a site that housed a funeral home for decades.

Plans were filed recently with the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission by developer John Lombard. The Lombard Group, a Waterbury development company, is proposing a 13,225-square-foot pharmacy with a drive-through on a property purchased last year at 26 Waterbury Road. The former Buckmiller Brother’s funeral home, which operated on the site for nearly four decades, closed last year.

The pharmacy is only part of plans Lombard submitted with the town. He said he also plans to move his company from Waterbury to a newly renovated building in Prospect.
Lombard had been working on purchasing properties in the town’s center for nearly a year. In July 2014 he purchased the former Buckmiller Brothers funeral home property on 1.4 acres of land for $1.6 million. Since then, Lombard has purchased property along Summit Road. The two property purchases bring the total of land Lombard owns to about 3 acres.

Plans for the properties along Summit Road include the demolition of a building badly damaged by fire. The second building will be partially demolished and then renovated into a two story building totaling 2,440 square feet.

Lombard said he plans to move his company headquarters from Waterbury to 4 Summit Road. Lombard said he is renovating only as much space as he needs for his business offices.

Plans submitted to the town show the pharmacy will be facing Waterbury Road. It will have 65 parking spaces and a drive-through on one side and in the back of the building.

“We’re proposing a building that will fit nicely in Prospect,” said Lombard, a town native.

If all goes well, Lombard said, he should have it built by the end of the year.
The town already has a CVS Pharmacy at 73 Waterbury Road, just a few hundred feet from where Lombard is proposing to build a new pharmacy building.

Lombard said he has signed a 25-year contract with CVS Pharmacy for the new store.

A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for Wednesday 7:15 p.m. at Town Hall.
