Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri endorsed Republican Tony Szewczyk in the race for the 17th Senate District seat.
“Tony Szewczyk was born and raised in Derby and has spent much of his life in Derby. As a retired architect, he has volunteered countless hours serving as a member of various boards and commissions. In particular, he was a strong and vocal member of our Board of Aldermen. He has always been forthright, honest and hardworking,” Staffieri wrote in an endorsement letter. “He speaks from the heart, cares about the citizens of Connecticut and has always been and will continue to be a hardworking, dedicated public servant.”
Szewczyk is challenging Democrat state Sen. Joe Crisco of Woodbridge for the seat. The district represents Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck, and Woodbridge.
