PROSPECT — An automatic recount won’t take place for all candidates of the Town Council after a Democratic candidate waived her right for one, town officials said.
A recount could have occurred because of a close vote between Democratic incumbent Carl Graveline and Eileen Cranney, the Democratic Town Committee chairwoman, according to the town clerk’s office. There is a six-vote difference, with Graveline receiving 732 votes, and Cranney, 726, official numbers show.
Cranney said she decided to waive her right because “we’ve certainly had enough fraction in the Democratic party and it needs to be over.”
She said hopefully she is setting that tone right now in a positive way.
The board remains under GOP control. The top nine vote-getters won seats on the Town Council.
According to the official results, the following Republican incumbents were re-elected: Stanley Pilat; Jeffrey Slapikas; Thomas Galvin, who is chairman of the council and the Republican Town Committee; and Douglas Merriman. Republican Alexander DeLelle, former Planning and Zoning Commission vice chairman, also won a seat.
The following Democratic incumbents were re-elected: Patricia Sullivan Geary; Theresa Cocchiola Graveline; and Carl Graveline. Democrat Carla Perugini-Erickson, who has served as chairwoman of the Water Pollution Control Authority, also won a seat.
