HARTFORD — State Sen. Joseph Crisco, Jr. (D-17) has been reappointed to serve as Senate Chair of the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee.

Crisco was reappointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-29). This will be Crisco’s fifth term at the helm of the committee. Crisco will also co-chair the legislature’s Internship Committee for this term.

“I’m grateful to Sen. Williams for his continuing faith in my ability to deliver sound policy initiatives and legislation for the people of Connecticut with regard to the insurance industry and real estate matters,” Crisco said in a statement. “I’m very proud of my committee’s track record over the past few years, for example with improved policies to help those with breast cancer, autism, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. I look forward to continuing my work on these issues.”

Crisco said among the policy issues he plans to address this session is enacting a new law to help patients and families afflicted with Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS).

Crisco said Connecticut is perched at a particularly important crossroads as the next term for the General Assembly begins.

“Recent and very significant changes will imminently affect Connecticut residents in terms of health care coverage — the federal Affordable Care Act will require state-level administration of its implementation. Thankfully, Connecticut is already well-positioned to incorporate these new federal healthcare policies,” Crisco said. “With so many changes in such a challenging climate, this is both an exciting and critically important time to be working in this policy area.”

Crisco was also reappointed vice chair of the Banking Committee and the Commerce Committee. Crisco will also continue serving on the Legislative Management Committee and the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee.
