policestarBEACON FALLS — The case against a Seymour woman who has been charged with choking her 8-day-old baby has been rescheduled to appear next month at Milford Superior Court, authorities said.

Ashley Donovan, 23, of 20 Manners Ave., was scheduled to appear Wednesday after her case was transferred on Tuesday from Derby Superior Court to Milford, where they hear more serious cases. However, she wasn’t transported from the Department of Correction, and has been scheduled to appear Aug. 7.

Donovan was charged with assault in the first degree, strangulation in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, risk of injury to a child and interfering with an officer or resisting arrest. She is being held on a $50,000 bond.

State police on July 16 arrested Donovan after they responded to a domestic dispute on Rimmon Hill Road. The baby has been treated and released from a hospital, state police said.

Seymour Lt. Paul Satkowski said Sgt. David Parratt and Officer James Duda both responded to that call, and both told him it was probably one of the most terrifying incidents that they have been involved in. Both took action to separate the baby from the mother after she began to choke the infant, he said.

“They saved the child’s life,” Satkowski said.
