NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck High School is heading back to the Palace Theater for graduation.

The Board of Education approved a contract last week to hold the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2014 at the theater in Waterbury next year.

Graduation for the Class of 2013 was held at the Palace Theater in June due to the ongoing $81 million renovation project at the high school. In July, the board announced that renovation work would prevent students from graduating at the high school once again. At the time, the board agreed if the school grounds were unavailable the Palace was the best alternative.

School Business Manager Robert Butler said the contract for the upcoming graduation is the same as last year’s deal.

“The payments are exactly the same as it cost us last year,” Butler said.

The contract is for $10,000 with the stipulation that if roads need to be closed around the theater the cost increase to $12,500. This is a stipulation in all contracts to hold an event at the theater, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Christopher Montini said.
