PROSPECT — Much of Route 68 will be reduced to one lane over the next few months as Yankeegas finished the last leg of their gas line from Waterbury to Wallingford.
The company plans to begin laying down the line April 18, starting on the Cheshire-Prospect boarder and continuing to the Naugatuck industrial park. They hope to finish construction in mid-September and have it up and running by November.
According to a report by Yankeegas, the pipe will be 16 inches wide and buried four feet underground.
The company plans to work quickly, laying about 200 feet per day, with two to four crews going at all times along 5.6 miles of the project route, according to the report.
Police will be directing traffic in areas reduced to one lane, but Yankeegas promises to maintain two lanes whenever possible.
The company will try to do sections that run through busy areas at night so as to create as little disturbance as possible, according to Town Council Chair Tom Galvin.
The new gas line will integrate two large load areas and address bottlenecked loads, according to the report.
Yankeegas will add a fourth vaporizer and water glycol heater to their LNG plant to improve the plant’s capacity.
The sections through Wallingford, Cheshire, and Naugatuck were completed last year.
Once the pipe is laid, Yankeegas will repave the roads and restore landscaping.
Yankeegas will notify residents and businesses along the route prior to construction, according to the report.
