Democrat Theresa Conroy of Seymour announced her plans to run for the state House of Representatives seat in the 105th District, which covers all of Beacon Falls and Seymour and a portion of Ansonia.

SEYMOUR — Two years ago, Democrat Theresa Conroy lost her bid for reelection to the state House of Representatives to Republican Len Greene Jr. by 109 votes. Now, Conroy wants another shot to represent the people of the 105th District, which covers all of Beacon Falls and Seymour and a portion of Ansonia.

“The people of the 105th District deserve a representative who will work passionately to ensure that we are getting the much needed support that we deserve, be it economic development, quality education, affordable healthcare, security for our seniors or supporting our military and veterans. These are just a few of the areas that I had focused on as a representative and they continue to be important to me today,” Conroy said during a recent speech before the Seymour Democratic Town Committee announcing her intentions to run for office.

According to a release issued by Conroy’s campaign, the committee unanimously endorsed her.

Conroy, who was born, raised, and still calls Seymour home, served one term as a state representative from 2008 to 2010. She currently serves on the Board of Selectmen in Seymour.

Conroy pledged to the committee that she would work hard to ensure the voices of the 105th District are heard in Hartford and compared the district to a “gem just waiting to be mined.”

“We have the needed infrastructure in place to expand on these great communities — rivers, a railroad, and a highway system that can take us to another level. What I will provide is the voice and tenacity to get projects going and see them through,” Conroy told the committee, according to the release.

Beacon Falls Democratic Town Committee Chair Katherine Grace could not be reached for comment as of this post.

By defeating Conroy in 2010, Greene earned his first term in Hartford and followed in his father’s, former state representative Len Greene Sr., footsteps. Greene was born and raised in Beacon Falls and currently lives in Seymour.

Greene said he’s set up a campaign committee and plans to seek reelection. Greene said he hasn’t made an official announcement yet because he’s been busy with his work in Hartford.

“I’m proud of the work I’ve done so far, and I’m focusing right now on trying to finish up the session the right way,” Greene said.
