Naugatuck resident and Kingswood Oxford running back Sharrieff Grice (on knee, furthest to right) attended the National Underclassmen Football Combine on March 16 in Miami, Fla., where he was awarded the 2014 Miami MVP Award. The award earned Grice an invitation to participate in the U100 Top Prospect Elite Event this coming summer. Last fall as a junior, Grice rushed for 840 yards and 11 touchdowns for Kingswood Oxford. Students from Algonquin and Community schools in Prospect toss pennies into the foundation of the new Prospect Elementary School before the concrete was poured March 19. According to superstition, throwing coins into a building’s foundation will bring the building, and those who inhabit it, good luck. Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield, who invited the students to take part in the activity, said he wanted to make sure the students felt connected to the building even though some will not attend the school. –LUKE MARSHALL
