Community foundation awards grants

WATERBURY — The Connecticut Community Foundation recently awarded $1.4 million in grants to nonprofit organizations serving residents of Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills, including multiple grants to aid programs in Naugatuck.

The foundation awarded six grants, totaling $106,835, for health and wellness programs in Naugatuck. The largest grant is $37,500 awarded to Wellmore Behavioral Health to provide mental health services to Naugatuck High School and City Hill Middle School students during school hours.

The health and wellness grants also included $26,835 to Human Resources Development Agency to help provide medical transportation for Naugatuck residents, $20,000 to Hidden Acres Therapeutic Riding Center for participant scholarships, and $7,500 for the Naugatuck mobile food pantry.

The foundation also awarded a $7,624 grant to the Naugatuck YMCA to help purchase a new membership database system, and a grant up to $5,000 to help make repairs to the bus used by Human Resources Development Agency.
