Communities honoring 9/11 anniversary

Several events are being held this weekend to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

A town-wide commemoration of 9/11 will be held in Beacon Falls on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 12 p.m. at 35 Wolfe Ave. The event is a joint effort of the Beacon Falls Congregational Church, St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Beacon Hose Co. No. 1, the VFW, the Lions Club and many other civic organizations in town.

The event will feature prayer, remembrance, music, displays, and a brief speaking program.

In Naugatuck, the Elks Lodge is hosting a remembrance program Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lodge on Rubber Avenue. The program is in honor of Patriot’s Week and veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will be honored. The cost is $10 per person and the event includes a dinner and social hour.

On Sunday, the Congregational Church of Naugatuck on Division Street is holding a prayer service featuring music, scripture and prayer to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at 5 p.m. The public is welcome.
