In other action last Wednesday night, the zoning commission unanimously approved an application for a special permit by Clearwire to build a communication facility on the roof of Maple Hills School.
The facility would transmit computer data, according to Robert Stamford, a representative from Clearwire.
Stamford said he had addressed the planning commission’s concerns that the roof would not be able to hold the equipment or that the signals would have a negative impact on the students’ health.
Access to the roof for repairs would be by appointment and escort only and any damage to the roof would be the responsibility of Clearwire, Stamford said.
The new facility would bring in extra revenue for Naugatuck, as its landlord.
