Commission to consider extension for special permit

NAUGATUCK — The Zoning Commission will consider whether to grant an extension on a special permit to build a convenience store and gas station on Prospect Street.

In June 2014, the owners of , Remzi Nasufi and Vesel Nasufi, unveiled a plan to tear down a multifamily home at 42 Prospect St. and the restaurant at 46 Prospect St. The plan is to build a 4,500 square-foot building including a convenient store, a gas station and a Dunkin’ Donuts in their place.

The parcel is 0.81 acres which includes 48 Prospect St., a parking lot, and 0 Golden Hill Road, a 35-foot strip of land that will be used for a turn-around area in the new parking lot.

The buildings and lots are owned by the Nasufis, who are brothers.

The commission approved the special permit in August 2014. No work has been done yet.

On Dec. 21, the commission received a letter from attorney Michael McVerry, who represents the Nasufis, requesting an extension on the permit.

The commission approved sending the request to a public hearing on Jan. 18.
