HARTFORD — The State Elections Enforcement Commission recently approved public grants under the Citizens’ Election Program for candidates running for state office.

The commission approved grant payments for Valerie Horsley, Jorge Cabrera and Sean Grace, all Democrats running in the 17th Senatorial District. Cabrera received the nomination to run, but the three will vie for the spot on the November ballot in the Aug. 14 primary.

The commission also approved a grant for Dagmara Scalise and Vickie Nardello, Democrats running in the 16th Senatorial District. Scalise received the Democratic endorsement and will face Nardello in the primary.

The Citizens’ Election Program is a voluntary program that provides full public financing for qualifying candidates for General Assembly and statewide offices.
