Cigarettes stolen in gas station break-in

PROSPECT — A lone man smashed the window at a Prospect gas station last week and stole cigarettes, police said.

On July 7, police reported, officers responded to an alarm at about 1:30 a.m. at the Sunoco gas station at 68 Waterbury Road. A window on the south side of the business was broken and four packs of cigarettes were found on the ground when officers arrived, police said.

Surveillance footage showed a man smash the window, reach in and take nine packs of cigarettes that were on a shelf, police said. Police described the suspect as white, with dark hair, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a medium build.

Police reported the footage showed the man parked in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo Bank, 66 Waterbury Road, and walked to the gas station.
