Police-badgeNAUGATUCK — A car fire snarled morning traffic on New Haven Road for about 45 minutes Wednesday morning.

Lt. Bryan Cammarata, Naugatuck Police Department spokesman, said a woman was driving in the area of Beacon Valley Road at about 9 a.m. when she noticed smoke coming from the hood of her car. He said the engine caught fire. The woman pulled over and called the fire department, Cammarata said.

Firefighters and police officers responded to scene. Cammarata said the car fire tied up traffic for about 45 minutes before the scene was cleared up.

Fire Chief Ken Hanks said the driver was an elderly woman and no one was injured. He said the fire department only investigates such fires if a car is set on fire.

As of this post, Cammarata said an officer was still writing the report and no further details were available.
