NAUGATUCK — On Sunday, Church Street will look more like memory lane as the VFW Crusader Post 1946 hosts its 2nd annual Classic Car Cruise.

Classic cars of all makes and models predating 1985 will line Church Street for the cruise.

“If the weather’s good, we expect to get 120 to 150 cars,” said Bob Genovese, a past Post commander.

Genovese, along with Post members Mike Devivo, Bill Canale and Phil Arcuri are organizing the car cruise, which is a fundraiser for Post 1946. The car cruise is free for spectators and $10 for every car entry. The proceeds raised from the event will go towards the Post’s building fund for repairs and to veterans’ programs in the borough, including the American Legion Post 17 baseball team.

“It’s like helping out our veteran brothers on the other side of town,” Genovese said.

Aside from the vintage cars that will be on the display, the event will feature live music, food, raffles, door prizes and children activities. Vendors, including local non-profit agencies, will also be set up on the Green.

Show cars will be admitted at 1 p.m. and the car cruise will begin with a flag raising ceremony at 2 p.m. in front of Town Hall. The event is scheduled to go until 5 p.m. and a rain date is scheduled for May 22.

“Come out and have a good time,” Genovese said. “Bring the kids.”
