Patrick Scully Sr.

Democrat

Burgess candidate

Why are you running for this position?

“As a resident of Naugatuck, a lifelong Democrat and a member of the Naugatuck Democratic Town Committee, my dedication to the taxpayers of Naugatuck comes first. Throughout the years I’ve worked to help to improve services and keep taxes low. We need leadership to run this borough with knowledge and financial responsibility. My vision for the town of Naugatuck is to attempt to hold tax increases to the cost of living index. As a community leader with an understanding of smart economic growth, we need to attract business of the future. We must look to the state government to allocate grant monies to help attract technical businesses, insurance and financial headquarters and catalog sales industry to our borough. We have several growing industries presently in our Industrial Park. We need to find ways for them to grow within our community.  The people of Naugatuck have an opportunity to put forth a candidate who can and will address issues. I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to address these issues facing the taxpayers. As a burgess I promise to continue to restore caring and knowledgeable leadership to our town. We need to work together. We need to find the answers to improve our lifestyles but more importantly we need to improve the lifestyle of all the people.”

Have you held public office in the past? If so, what positions and when?

“I have served on the Board of Mayor and Burgesses from May 2007 until the present and from May 2001 to May 2003. I also served on the Planning Commission as deputy chairman from May 1999 to May 2001 and on the Street Commission as deputy chairman from September 1985 to September 1986.”

What experience makes you qualified for this position?

“From 1975 thru 1992 I fought the DEP and the EPA and a local manufacturer to get the Fulling Mill Brook cleaned up. In 1992, after years of back and forth negotiations with the government bureaucracy the local manufacturer was order to stop dumping heavy metals and chemicals into the brook.”

If elected, what are your priorities and goals?

“I will continue to try and keep our taxes in check and continue to work to consolidate the Public Works Department into one building off of Rubber Avenue.”
