Why are you running for this position?

“I am running for the Board of Education to aid in the creation of an atmosphere that fosters learning, increases communication and fosters accountability that leads to a quality education at a price that all taxpayers can afford. A vote for Dorothy is a vote for unity towards the success of our children’s future through education.  I am honest, a team player, highly motivated and an individual of integrity and empathy.

Have you held public office in the past?

“No, I have not held public office.”

What experiences make you qualified for this position?

“I am a highly organized individual with strong management experience well-versed in various health care and insurance industry issues with extensive knowledge in health benefit programs. I understand and appreciate the cross-functional dynamics and am flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. I am willing to explore and seek opportunities to try new ways of doing things in order to better serve students, teachers and taxpayers.”

If elected, what are your priorities and goals?

“My priorities are: To help reduce the budget deficit so we can take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to the education of the children. Establish open communication between the Board of Mayor and Burgesses and the Board of Education. Aid in the achievement of academic success for all students. Work towards financial accountability through a positive school-community partnership. My goals are: To give our children the education they need to succeed in the 21st Century. To foster positive school-community partnership. To communicate more effectively within the system as well as outside the system. To remind everyone that the future is in the children that we are raising.  Their success is a reflection of the education they receive.”
