Crisco receives endorsements from education groups

HARTFORD — State Sen. Joe Crisco (D-17) has been endorsed for re-election by the Connecticut Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers.

“Joe has consistently proven himself to be an advocate for children, teachers, and public education,” President of the CEA Sheila Cohen said in a press release.

President of the AFT Melodie Peters added in a press release, “This endorsement is in recognition of Joe’s long-term commitment to working families.”

Combined the groups represent over 70,000 teachers and school support staff, nurses and health care workers, higher education faculty and public service workers.

“I am honored to receive the endorsements of two organizations whose goal is to advocate for teachers and find ways to better our system of education in Connecticut,” Crisco said in a press release.

Crisco is seeking re-election in the 17th Senatorial District, which represents Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck and Woodbridge.

CBIA endorses Zupkus for re-election

HARTFORD — The Connecticut Business and Industry Association has endorsed state Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) for re-election.

“Lezlye Zupkus understands how a strong, vibrant economy benefits everyone in the state,” said Joe Brennan, CBIA executive vice president, in a press release. “She will work hard to get Connecticut back on track and make Connecticut a top state to live and work.”

The CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies.

Zupkus, who was also endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, welcomed the endorsement.

“I am honored to be recognized for my commitment to support businesses and jobs. I have met with many small business owners in my district, and they have made it clear that the excessive taxes and regulations being imposed are hurting them” said Zupkus in a press release. “If Connecticut is to become economically viable, it must address those concerns, and I will continue to support legislation that reduces taxes and regulations and eliminates bureaucratic hurdles.”

Zupkus is seeking re-election in the 89th House District, which represents the towns of Bethany, Cheshire and Prospect.

Public safety unions endorse Nardello

HARTFORD — The Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut (UPFFA) and the Connecticut Police and Fire Union (CPFU) has endorsed Democrat state representative candidate Vickie Nardello for election in the 89th House District.

“This action is taken after careful consideration of your support for professional firefighters of the State of Connecticut and your commitment to helping to insure the health and safety of our brothers and sisters throughout the state,” stated Peter S. Carozza, Jr., President of UPFFA, in a press release “We are proud of our association with you and look forward to our continuing partnership.”

Nardello thanked the associations for their support.

“Public safety always comes first,” said Nardello in a press release. “It is my responsibility and the legislature’s to protect the public and I am thankful for the recognition and support of the men and women first responders who put their safety on the line every day.”

The UPFFA represents 60 affiliated local unions in the state, comprising about 4,200 members. The CPFU represents law enforcement, firefighting and regulatory personnel in over 23 state agencies.

President of the Connecticut Police and Fire Union Glenn Terlecki said upon endorsing Nardello, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your commitment and dedication to public service. We feel the citizens of the State of Connecticut and our members will benefit greatly from your work as our state legislator.”

Nardello is currently a candidate for state representative in the 89th House District, which represents Bethany, Cheshire and Prospect.
