NAUGATUCK — Police are investigating similar burglaries of gas stations in Naugatuck and Middlebury that occurred during the early morning hours on Christmas.
In Naugatuck, a suspect or suspects kicked in the front glass door of the Sunoco gas station at 531 North Main St. at about 1:10 a.m. and stole 60 cartons of Newport cigarettes, police said.
The Mobil gas station on Route 63 in Middlebury was broken into shortly before the burglary in Naugatuck, police said. In this burglary, the suspects threw a rock through the glass door and also stole 70 packs of Newport cigarettes, police reported.
Police believe the burglaries are connected due to the similarities between the two incidents, but don’t have anything concrete to tie the two together, Naugatuck police Lt. Bryan Cammarata said.
Police don’t have a description of the vehicle used by the suspects, but believe the suspect or suspects in the Naugatuck burglary parked by Riverside Motors near the Sunoco gas station during the burglary.
The burglaries are under investigation. Police asked anyone with information on these burglaries to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the department’s confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
