NAUGATUCK — Two 12-year-old boys turned themselves in to police recently on charges of assaulting another 12-year-old boy on a school bus in October.

One of the boys began teasing another on a bus home from City Hill Middle School Oct. 19, said Lt. Robert Harrison. The boy doing the teasing then punched his schoolmate several times, breaking his glasses, Harrison said. The boy who was punched fell into the aisle of the bus, where a second boy kicked him once, Harrison said.

After the victim arrived home, his mother called police. In an interview with police, the boy charged with punching the victim blamed the fight on an uninvolved student, which police determined was false when they viewed the tape from the bus’s video camera, Harrison said.

Police charged one boy with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and making a second-degree false statement, and another with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. They were released on a promise to appear in juvenile court Jan. 6.
