Branch returns to states after serving overseas

Army Reserve Pvt. Alana Branch has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Branch, a 2009 graduate of Wilby High School in Waterbury, is a human resources specialist with the 408th Human Resources Company, Fort Totten, Queens, N.Y. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Annie Branch of Naugatuck.

As part of Operation New Dawn, which officially ended Dec. 15, members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces were also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.
