NAUGATUCK — Board of Education member Debra Brackett resigned Thursday to take a job in the school system as a family advocate for the Head Start program in the borough.

She starts Monday and will make $27,000 a year.

Board member Glenn Connan voted against her appointment, saying he was not comfortable with her applying for the position while she was still on the school board. Board member James Jordan said the board had nothing to do with the hiring process and did not know Brackett was a candidate until Thursday, after she interviewed with school system officials who recommended her for the job.

Anyone interested in filling Brackett’s vacancy on the school board must be a registered Democrat and should send a letter to Superintendent of Schools John Tindall-Gibson at school board headquarters, 380 Church St., Naugatuck 06770.
