Central-AveNAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Head Start/School Readiness Programs is accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year.

This NAEYC accredited program provides early education to all children enrolled as well as comprehensive family development services.

“We believe parents are partners in their child’s education and are their child’s most important teacher. Parents and staff work together to help every child develop according to their individual needs, to prepare them for a successful kindergarten experience,” a press release issued by the Program Manager Cheryl Woodruff stated.

Parents are given the opportunity to participate in every aspect of the program, from volunteering in the classroom to program policy and decision making, the release stated.

Full day and part-day classes are available, as well as a year-round program. There is no charge for the Head Start Program as long as the family meets the federal income guidelines. The School Readiness program is by sliding fee scale according to family household income.

All children receive free meals and snacks. Free vision, hearing and speech screenings are completed upon entry into the program.

To be eligible for the program, children must live in Naugatuck, be 4 years old or turn 3 by Jan.1, 2014 and meet income guidelines. Children with a diagnosed disability may also be eligible.

The programs are run at Central Avenue Preschool, 28 Central Ave. For more information, call (203) 720-5224.
