NAUGATUCK — The borough’s annual fireworks celebration has been postponed due to the forecast of rain.

The event, which was originally scheduled for Friday, will be Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. on Old Firehouse Road. The event features family activities, food, vendors and music. The fireworks show is set to start at about 9:15 p.m.

Old Firehouse Road will be closed to traffic at about 4 p.m., police said. Parking will be available in the General DataComm parking lot at 6 Rubber Ave. Cars should enter from the south at the Rubber Avenue entrance or the north entrance near Nardelis Grinder Shoppe.

Police advised residents that the fireworks can be viewed downtown and on Old Firehouse Road, but Rotary Field, Hotchkiss Street, the Whittemore Bridge and the Salem Bridge will be off limits to spectators.

The Whittemore Bridge and the Route 68 bridge are currently undergoing construction. Police said the Route 68 bridge will be open in both directions on Saturday. After the fireworks, police said, traffic will be allowed to exit utilizing the Whittemore Bridge on Maple Street.

Police also reminded residents that no alcoholic beverages are allowed on borough or state property.
