NAUGATUCK — The death of a man found in the backyard of an Irving Street home has been deemed by police to be a suicide.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday police responded to Irving Street on a report of a “gunshot.” When police arrived on the scene they found the man dead in the backyard of 52 Irving St.

Originally, the case was being investigated as an “untimely death.” But, by Tuesday morning, police determined the cause of death to be a suicide. Police identified the man as 56-year-old Terrance Noss.

Police said no gun was found at the scene, and Noss died from a “traumatic head injury.”

As of this post, police said, there is no indication of foul play, and an autopsy will be done later this week.

The incident remains an open investigation.
