NAUGATUCK — Borough police charged a 47-year-old man in connection with a home burglary last October in which more than $14,000 in jewelry was stolen.

Naugatuck police arrested Douglas Fast, whose last known address is 94 Everett St., Stratford, May 31 on an active arrest warrant and charged him with burglary in the third degree and larceny in the second degree.

The charges stem from an Oct. 2, 2011 daytime burglary of the home at 135 Evening Star Drive, Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Robert Harrison said.

Harrison said police believe Fast entered the home through a sliding glass door. The victim returned home to find her house burglarized, he said.

Fast is accused of stealing an assortment of jewelry valued at over $14,000.

Recently, Harrison said, Seymour police uncovered some stolen jewelry and the victim identified some of the recovered jewelry as hers that was stolen in October.

The recovered jewelry led police to Fast, who confessed to burglarizing the home when questioned by Naugatuck detectives, Harrison said.

Harrison described Fast as a “career burglar.”

Fast currently has 25 pending cases in the Bridgeport and Milford court systems, most of which include some form of burglary and larceny charges.

“He’d been working the Route 8 corridor,” Harrison said.

The Naugatuck case is under the jurisdiction of Waterbury Superior Court. Harrison explained the charges against Fast for the Naugatuck burglary are classified as a Class C felony and carry a sentence of not less than one year and no more than 10 years.

Fast was arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court May 31. He was held on a $10,000 bond and his case was continued to July 20, according to the state judicial branch’s website.
