NAUGATUCK — A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday after he came to Naugatuck for what he thought was a date for sex with a teenage girl.

According to a release issued by the Naugatuck Police Department, Christopher Driscoll, 39, of 1057 Beechlawn Terrace, Orange began chatting online with someone who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl in January. Who he really was chatting with was Det. Ronald Blanchard, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The task force was created to help law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative response to offenders who use the internet, online communication systems, or other computer technology to sexually exploit children.

After six chats between Jan. 17 and Feb. 9, the release stated, Driscoll arranged to meet the “14-year-old girl” in Naugatuck yesterday for sex. He was taken into custody without incident when he arrived for the meeting. The New Milford Police Department assisted borough police during this investigation.

Driscoll was charged with criminal attempt at sexual assault in the second degree, criminal attempt at risk of injury to a minor, and criminal attempt at use of a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity. He was held on a $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court today.
