NAUGATUCK — Police arrested a 22-year-old borough resident suspected of burglarizing several vehicles Jan. 6.

An officer patrolling Millville Avenue saw a suspicious male, later identified as Kyle Anthony Anders-Huculak, walking on Elmwood Street at about 1 a.m., police said. Anders-Huculak fled when he saw the officer, according to a police report.

Multiple officers responded and arrested Anders-Huculak after a foot chase that ended on Meadow Street. He was charged with interfering with an officer, criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree burglary.

He was arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 6 and released on a promise to appear. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 17.

Police say they’ve increased patrols in residential areas, and have taken proactive measures to address a recent surge in thefts of vehicles and items inside them.

People are asked to remove valuables from plain sight, and to lock their vehicles and take their keys with them. Also, police urge people to avoid idling vehicles, even in their driveway.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact Naugatuck police at 203-729-5221.
